European Excellence Model EFQM

EFQM stands for “European Foundation for Quality Management”. It is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 to promote and improve business excellence across Europe. The European Foundation for Quality Management provides a framework for organizations to evaluate and improve management practices and performance based on a set of criteria that cover different aspects of business operations, such as leadership, strategy, managing people, partnerships, processes and results.

The EFQM Excellence Model is a management framework that helps organizations evaluate their performance and identify areas for improvement. The model is based on nine criteria, which are grouped into five categories:

Leadership: How leaders develop and implement a vision for the organization, and how they inspire and engage people to achieve the vision.

Strategy: How the organization develops and implements a strategy in line with its vision and mission, and how it manages risks and opportunities.

People: How the organization manages its employees, including their development, well-being and participation in decision-making.

Partnerships and Resources: How the organization manages its relationships with its partners and suppliers, and how it manages its resources to achieve its goals.

Processes, Products, and Services: How an organization designs, manages, and improves its processes, products, and services to meet the needs of its customers and stakeholders.

Organizations can use the EFQM framework to assess their performance and identify areas for improvement. By doing so, they can improve the excellence of their business, achieve sustainable success, and meet stakeholder expectations.

The EFQM framework is a widely recognized and respected model of organizational excellence, and has been endorsed by thousands of organizations worldwide. The model is updated regularly to reflect changes in the business environment and management best practices.

The EFQM framework is designed to be adaptable to different types and sizes of organizations, and can be used by both private and public sector organisations. The framework is based on the premise that sustainable success requires a focus on both short- and long-term results, as well as a balanced approach to managing the various aspects of an organization.

One of the main benefits of using the EFQM framework is that it provides a common language and a systematic approach to assessing and improving organizational performance. The framework can be used as a basis for self-evaluation, comparison with other organizations, and external evaluation by independent evaluators.

The European Foundation for Quality Management also provides many training courses, tools and resources to support organizations in their journey towards excellence. The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) organizes an awards program annually to honor organizations that have demonstrated outstanding performance and excellence.

Overall, the EFQM framework is a valuable tool for organizations wishing to improve their performance, achieve sustainable success, and meet stakeholder expectations. It provides a comprehensive and systematic approach to managing and improving various aspects of an organization, and helps organizations maintain their competitive edge in a rapidly changing business environment.
